Learn. Play. Grow.
We empower kids to lead healthy, productive lives through our focus in three key areas: 1) Providing safe and fun places for kids to grow and thrive, 2) Delivering engaging programs focused on academics, health, and leadership and 3) Offering trained staff who guide, coach, and motivate kids to be successful. Established in 1979, the Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos (the Club) is part of a nationwide movement of independent community-based organizations working to help youth of all backgrounds develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. We are committed to serving the needs of youth, ages 6 to 18, during the critical hours when they are out of school and away from parental supervision, ensuring they receive what they need most: a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves, adult role models who respect and listen to them, and interesting, constructive educational and recreational activities that channel youthful energy into challenging and productive pursuits. With a $5M operating budget and 110 dedicated staff members, the Club proudly serves over 4,000 San Marcos youth across 12 sites, including two standalone branches, each year.
Leadership & Culture
The Club is led by an exceptional executive team, dedicated to fostering a culture of inclusivity, transparency, and growth, both personally and professionally. Their focus is to create a safe and supportive environment for both the staff and the students and families they serve. As a member of the executive team, the VP of Operations will report to CEO, Cathy Baur, who brings deep experience and connectivity to the local community. Prior to joining the Club in 2020, Cathy spent over 35 years in communications and fundraising, including nearly 12 years at California State University San Marcos, where she served as VP of University Advancement, Associate VP of Communications, and as the Executive Director of the CSUSM Foundation Board. Under her leadership, the Club continues to achieve great success including doubling of the operating budget, opening of the new Walter J. & Betty C. Zable Foundation Branch in 2022, completion of a $2MM capital campaign in 6 months and a $600k remodel of the Jennifer Loscher Branch.
